Although the actual run is the focus of the trip, the students themselves have a unique opportunity to share in the central reason for completing the journey, that is, to embrace the spirit that the ANZACS adopted whilst fighting on foreign soil. Arriving in Turkey before Anzac Day, we will experience the solemn dawn service at Anzac Cove, along with thousands of others paying their respects.
It is during this 4075 km run, that students will have a chance to experience the culture, geography and rich history of the countries we pass through. As well as paying tribute to our fallen countrymen, we will embark on many educational activities that will be communicated to schools back home in Australia through the technologies we have available. School groups will be able to follow our daily progress and to be actively involved through blogs, email and web quests and all the other forms of communication that the younger generation seems to have embraced.
Whilst on the trip, we will be conducting a celebration of life of our 17 CBC old boys who lost their lives during battles of WW1. We will be honoring them at their graves sites at Lone Pine, Helles, Villers-Bretonneux, Trios-Arbres, Pozieres and at the Menin Gates.
Some of the Key Roles that our students may be involved in include:
· Visit schools with members of the MFB to inform students of the aims and objectives of the trip.
· Provide interesting facts about the places we visit and the historical significance to Australian history.
· To be young ambassadors for our college and provide a shining example of the way Australian youth can contribute to community based activities.
· Update the blog on the web site and to provide information about current events
· To map the current progress of the run
· Uploading photographs and video of our progress
· To visit schools in Turkey, Greece, Italy, Belgium, France and England and to share experiences with the local school communities.
· Use modern technology to assist in spreading the concept of the Great Anzac Run to many schools across Australia. |
